In four short movements, STATES OF MATTER for Unaccompanied Tuba depicts the classic forms in which matter is observable in everyday life: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. Premiered on March 31, 2025 by Los Angeles Philharmonic Principal Tubist Mason Soria, the work was inspired by the Leonard Falcone Composition Competition, and is an exploration of an orchestral instrument from which I, as a violinist, felt most separated by distance, both on stage and the grand staff.
